What type of cable does the RUX knob use?

I know it's a telephone cord, but will any telephone cord work? There are different types. Like RJ 11, 14 and 25. Some sources say that it uses an RJ 25, but is that the only kind of cable that will work for this application? The only RJ 25 cable I found locally was 25 feet long.

My current cable has some of the shielding cut and I think maybe some of the smaller wires are exposed. I'm getting interference or something going on with my sub when I turn the knob to minimum gain. Like this crackly grinding noise. And I have verified that it is not the sub.
