My cousin is looking into putting a system in his 1998 Explorer. We have narrowed it down to two different systems and are looking for and SQL overall sound.
The first system is a 12" L5 (dual 4 ohms) run by a KX600.1 in a 2.5 cu ported box at 35hz. This system is fairly close to what I have in a tahoe so he knows about what it would sound like in his explorer. He has found all of this system for around $450 from what I hear.
The second system is two 12" type R's (dual 4 ohms) that are in a 2.5 cu sealed box with independent 1.25 cu chambers. It is all powered by a alpine Mrv-1002. The box is completely fill with polyfill. This system he found for $425 from someone who is going to college and doesn't want to take it. He heard it and said that it was mind blowing loud but it was in a much smaller car ('95 civic).
I think that both brands are good but I just looked at the specs on the Alpine amp and noticed that it only puts out 600 RMS bridged at 4 ohms. It isn't 1 ohm stable either.
Since you guys know more about these things, we are asking for your opinions on these. THANX in advance.
