what sub setup??

Ok, currently I have one kicker CVR 10" sub in my crew cab truck. It is in a downfire enclosure. I recently upgraded my mids and highs and the sub is now lacking. It doesn't exist in the same presence as it did before. I need a little more bass to compensate for louder mids and highs. This is where my dilemma is.. Space is very limited so I'm trying to avoid dual subs. That would leave me with less cubic feet of volume for each sub. With one and I can I have more space for a bigger box. I have two Kicker CVX 10" sitting in my floor that I could use. I hear the CVX's are a drastic improvement over the CVR's Just wondering if one sub with a larger box that is closer to spec requirements for cubic feet would be better than cramming to subs with not much room or space to perform.

crew cab Silverado 1500. I have passengers so it will have to be a downfire box under rear seat. Which limits space for sub drastically. One thing I don't understand is that JL audio, and Alpine don't require or recommend near the amount of sealed cubic feet volume as kicker??
