What so set Boston SL60s tweeters at and other questions

No, no sub. One of the reasons I bought them was because it's rated at 45hz-22khz. All my other options started around 50 or 55hz. So, from this standpoint, it actually can produce lower lows than what's in my car now, and the other options I considered. Not sure why you're not letting it do anything under 80.
I'm using 80 hz as my crossover point. An IDQ10 is taking care of the lows.

2Wheeler, regarding the crossovers to the woofer, why are yours at off-axis? Mine will be a little higher than my ankles maybe a foot length in between my head to where the speakers are. So low, and a little ahead - do you think this qualifies for off-axis?

I can't remember exactly what parameters were listed in the instructions but I have my woofers mounted in the bottom, front corner of the doors, stock location in an 04 Toyota Tacoma. Tweets are in the top front orner of the doors. Bottom line, I just followed the directions. One of these days I'd like to change the setting and see what the difference is, but truth is that they sound so good that I haven't felt the need.

2Wheeler, please help with the woofer crossovers. Looks like I too will need them set on off-axis - the speakers will be in front doors at bottom, towards windshield.

The diagram of the woofer crossover off/on-axis with instructions only shows the switch, but not in relation to the crossover, so I can't tell what the position should be (doesn't show a concrete position in relation to overall crossover). Know what I'm saying? I'm saying that depending on how you're holding the crossover, it could be read either way. I've been writing Boston about this but every reply is about something not related to the question.

OK I was set straight by an employee of Boston. Apparently inside the woofer crossovers, the switch is physically labeled so it doesn't matter that the instruction diagram isn't.

When I was speaking to him on the phone, he recommended setting the tweeters at 0db for the best sound, although everything I've heard from everyone else says that these tweeters are frightningly "bright" when not turned down a notch or even 2 notches on the crossovers. Wow, this whole deal is quite the research project.

Hey. Theoretically, should 80 RMS watt component speakers, powered by an 80 RMS per channel Rockford amp (actual RMS output per channel of amp: 115 RMS) be at minimum twice as loud as 35 RMS watt rear deck speakers being powered by a 15 RMS watt per channel head unit?

My new BAs sound great, but I can't help think that it should be louder than it is. Some songs "clip" (I think that's the term) at 18-20 volume setting. What happens is I hear one of the new front speakers either on the left or right (but I don't think both) seem to disappear momentarily. I freak out and turn it down of course. I swear though, before I had an amp, or this nice new shiny set of components (the stock were components too) the volume would start distorting around 18 on the volume dial. Never before though did I seem to lose a speaker momentarily. It seems fuller, and most obviously clearer (better than even my home stereo) but I can't help but be a little disappointed that the volume on the Alpine still maxes out (although in a different way = just distorted before).

The guys installed the amp under a passenger seat, so it's really hard to verify the settings, let alone tinker with them. From what the guy said, the amp (which is only powering the front components as stated in the first sentence) is on full range, instead of high or low pass. The speakers they are powering are Boston SL60s. From what little I could see with a flashlight, it appeared that the gain was set almost to full - maybe 80%. Unfortunately the HP-LP-full range switch is at the bottom, seemingly covered by the carpet so I can't verify that it actually is on full range.

Again, the speakers sound wonderful for the most part, but aren't as loud as I had expected. From the little knowledge I've given you, would you recommend turning the gain on the amp down - which my uneducated self would assume would let me turn the speakers up louder without them shutting off for a millisecond like they do now around their max volume. Would doing this take away some of the "quality" sound?

I mean, just off the bat - does an 80 RMS per channel x 2 amp (actual RMS of Rockfords spec sheet said 115 x 2) powering 80 watt RMS speakers normally and/or theoretically warrant the gain on high (my hopeful thinking to justify the people who installed it being: if it's an 80 watt amp you should give it most or all of it's power to speakers of the same rating).

Also, from what you know about my situation (SL60 = 45hz-22khz), is it customary to leave these speakers on full range? To simplify this question, what's going on with my coaxials in the back that are just being powered by my head unit - I mean, I doubt they're being limited to a certain freq. range (my head unit has no option for this) and they seem to be doing just fine.

From all the research I read about tuning an amp (turn up as loud as can be until distortion occurs, then repeat with amp) I couldn't help but think there'd be no way I'd even reach the 18 volume setting. That's normally the setting I would listen to before the amp if I wanted it as loud as it could go while still sounding good. Now I'm doing the same **** thing! Turn it up 1 or 2 more to 20 and watch out! Nirvana's Lithium at level 20 had the front end phasing out!
