What size wire to subs

.....i don't see people run big wires to the subs....is there a reason why....i saw on one of steve meades builds it looks like he had 4 guage some something....it was a good sized wire to the subs....why would someone do that?....whats the advantage?

I have 4 gauge also with huge banana clips. It was available to me so i used it.

I think bigger wire has less resistance, also looks gangster as fawk having a huge ROPE coming out of the box.

he is prolly using such thick guaged wire because of the amps he is using...thicker wire allows more current flow than smaller wire.

but...i used 12ga monster cable hw2 wire on my subs, but anywhere from a 10ga to 14-16ga is good for a normal speaker in a typical sq setup.

we tested spl differences from 16-8 guage and saw no improvement in spl with ~ 4kw

lol there ya have it. i am running 1200wrm and using 16g... I laught at people that use 8g wires or bigger... what a waste of money.

yeah that is 4awg that steve meades uses. im still only using 8awg. i use the needle type pin reducers

I'm using 16 awg with 4k goin to the sub. The sub plays fine, thats all that matters. Even if you were to use thicker or larger gauge wire, I highly doubt anyone will notice an audible difference. If you want to be cool, by all means go for it, but I prefer to have my wires hidden for a clean looking install. If you are into strictly SPL to the point where you are a hardcore competitor and if you do see a gain, then use it...otherwise, no need to.
