other then sell it, what should I do w/this. I got a new car-the new SI and I have no need for it in a car application. The new car has a stock sub and it is upgradeable w/ an 8"shallow mount.

I pulled it out of the 3.2cuft 33hz ported enclosure I had it in and noticed quite a bit of oxidation. The "hole" on the bottom of the sub that runs through the magnets is building up some rust. how is this possible? my box was never wet, never left the sub out in the rain. do live in florida tho. should i make the sub into a home theatre application as it is good in the SQ department? would I need to rebuild my box to do so? I have pics of the oxidation, I just need to upload them.

I tried to sell it local, most people arent audiophiles and dont know of RE....besides I bought it during the groupbuy a while back and theres no way I could buy anything of equal quality w/the return of $150 or so.

what do you guys suggest? I love working with speakers and building boxes. already sold my amp tho....(bad move I know)

also if the sub is rated at 600rms and many push it at 800-1000rms, at what wattage would it be underpowered? I dont want to hook it up to the stereo in my room and hurt her. lol

Are you really satisfied with that whimpy factory sub? It can't possibly compare to the RE. If space is a problem in the new ride, I'd drop it in a small sealed enclosure. If you absolutely don't want to install it in your car, I'd use it to make a powered sub for your HT theater system. You're right about not being able to replace it with an equivilant driver for $150. BTW, the corrosion in the driver's vent pole doesn't hurt a thing. It's pretty common as the car environment is a moist one. My current driver has the same thing and it still performs as it did when it was new.

thanks for the input. i might do something flush in the trunk on the side by the wheel well. that way its out of the way.

also, in case i use it in a home audio application--how many watts do i need to run it at to be safe? is underpowering a true problem or just myth?

sounds funny but i got a cd player(the regular bookshelf kind) but its made by sony and it came with a stock 12" subwoofer. i hooked up the re and it rattles the windows. is this safe? its gotta be at least 100watts. lol

Underpowering a sub is not a wise thing to do. It's better to overpower than underpower. How may watts you actually should be using depends upon what the driver is rated at. Some have nominal power requirements and if your RE does, I wouldn't go below that rating. The best amp to use is one that puts out the max your driver is rated for, or slightly more.
