What makes Kicker so bad?

I've been hearing mixed reviews on Kickers in general. I plan to get some CVX subs, but after hearing much negative feedback i'm starting to think it over.

Legit points only, I'm not looking to argue, I'm looking for reasons to buy/not buy.

If you feel another brand is better for the same price, feel free to tell me. I'm planning to pay about 300 dollars for 2 Kicker CVX subs, so if you can think of something that is comparable, please do let me know! I'm trying to make an educated purchase.

The new kicker stuff just isnt the quality they charge for, the cones are plastic and the surrounds are sh|tty. the sound quality is poo. and there is better to be had for the money
Because a plastic cone is less rigid and less dependable than a paper cone...>?

Oh and to actually answer your question OP, there's nothing wrong with Kicker products if you get them at a good price. The only problem with them on here is that they aren't 'underground' and 'hip'. I've been using Kicker products exclusively for about the last 10years. I have yet to have a driver fail on me and I have abused the hound out of all of my systems. People can say they aren't the same, but I've had stuff from before Korea, and after and it's all been quality stuff.

I personally dont use kicker stuff. but back in the early 90 kicker had nice stillwater made subs. I think people complained about the cvr series, but I am not sure. most I see are L5 and L7 subs are used alot for SPL. Ther older stuff I mentioned seemed to be more SQ to me. Just depends on your taste . I am not sure about the newer stuff in terms of functionality and dependability either.

Everything is still designed by Stillwater, as that's the actual company. Kicker was adopted only because it was a type of sub made by Stillwater Designs and was highly recognizable. Open the case on my Warhorse and it's stamped "STILLWATER DESIGNS"

Their not what they used to be. Not bad for what they are now though. Something most here fail to grasp though, is they don't come at the premium pricing they used to either. Old kicker speakers ( even entry level) were spensive. Is there better out there? Of course, there always is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok, I wasnt sure. I have had few experience with them.

Kicker has its place in many types of installs and if installed properly and used properly they work great. My biggest issue with them is that if you are trying to get them loud you lose a little of the punchy output. The bass seems muddy and not articulated. This is not a issue that only Kicker has, lots of subs have this problem. The higher end Kickers don't have this issue IMO as much.

What type of vehicle is this going in to? Is it possible to combine the money and purchase a higher quality single woofer and run the same power for what you are trying to do?

i have had a number of old kicker products and loved them. i have had a comp , CVR , l5 , and l7 of the new offerings. The only one that seriously impressed me was the l7 8". It held up to a ZX750.1 for about 6 months. Thats double rated power daily for 6 months. Finally with the florida heat and the extra power the surround literally came unglued from the basket and i never got it properly aligned again so it wen on craigslist. that sucker was a trooper. None of the others impressed me in any way shape or form though.
