My preference is 12". The reasons are install related only (smaller enclosure requirements).

I'm into SQ and listen to pretty much all types of music and I love my 2 15's in a bandpass box. Hits hard but stays clean.

The MYTHBUSTERS sub was 60in driver hookedup to the drive train. It hit 161 at like 16hz on a TL. Pretty crazy for that low.

Anyway, as per the question. I like 15's in ported boxes. Depending on the sub I want them tuned to get max possible SQ. The best of both worlds IMO.
