What is wrong with Employees?

i work at radio shack and if theres no customers in the store i have nothing to do. My boss does it and doesnt care if i do

I quit a good paying job so I didn't have to worry about someone telling me what I could and could not do. Many jobs that pay well also treat there people badly, this was my reasoning for doing my own thing. If an employee can surf the web while on the clock and get by with it why not! If you expect someone to regulate themselves at work then they wouldn't need a manager. If you work with your people as opposed to telling what to do, then they respect you. I f they respect you then they will get your back. And the stupid S.O.B.'s that are just incourageable they will never get it anyways. so just shitcan em and be done with it.

I would say it depends on the pay. and how much you like the job. people who need a job need it, those who parents tell them to get one... are gonna sit on theyre fone.

If you're not going to come to work to work, don't bother coming at all and do everyone a favour and tell your boss to hire someone else who will actually work in your place.

Employers can tell you what to do because you WORK FOR THEM. Just think about that for a second, they don't work for you.... YOU WORK FOR THEM.

Now, I do understand that a lot of places don't appreciate good workers, that is just a bad job but I think there is a point where some thing become unacceptable.

Think about it like this, you need to get new windows put into your house before winter. You hire some guys to come and do it. You have 1 month to install the windows it before it is going to snow and freeze and be all sorts of hell. It takes about 1 month to install them normally, so you should be perfectly ok on the time. You are also paying the guys by the day to do the job. They come and work and it takes them 2 months to do the job. Why, because when you aren't home they are sniffing your wife/girlfriends panties and playing on the computer. So, not only does the job not get done by the time it should have you paid them pretty much to play on the internet and get their jollies on your girls snatch smell.

Anyway, I think that you are misguided on your ideas however. Most jobs that pay well are going to be demanding and harder work, that just comes with the pay increase. I guess to some that would come as being 'bossy' or what have you. It is also not true that if you 'respect' them they will respect you. This is dead wrong. We do everything we can humanly do to make things great for our employees and all some of them do is slap us in the face.

It is a shock and it **** well should be. It isn't called work for nothing. People don't say "I'm going to go earn a living at play". I think that this has become an acceptable practice and people look at it in a non surprised way, which to me is totally and absolutely unacceptable.

It seems that many of them come to work to screw off and not to actually work.
We recently had to let some go because they were browsing the web, downloading music, and chatting online instead of working. They also managed to infest the company computer with spyware.

I know a lot of people post here when they are supposed to be doing work. Why do you do that? Do you view work as time you can screw around?

Why is it that some people try everything they can to not do work when they are at work?

Employers don't pay you to surf the web, post what you think about someone's subwoofer, or check your facebook/myspace page. Employers pay you to do work and make them money, so that they can pay you money.

1. We tried this, however thanks to the sites that they do need to go to changing daily it becomes a PITA and they figure ways around it anyway.

2. They are adults and I should have to play babysitter.

I surf the internet because the tasks assigned do not take up my whole day.

I pay all the utility bills for an air force base and monitor all the funds for the base. It used to take two people to accomplish this task. I can do it by myself and still surf aproximately 5 hours of the work day. Perhaps if my employer gave me more challenging work...I would surf less.

Oh I agree 100% that it goes both ways. I also didnt mean to imply that is true everywhere. But as a whole the workforce is going down the shitter. IMO of course.

Do you ensure that the employees are tasked optimally? If there is no work to do, and you cannot send them home (well if you did, you would have to pay them anyways because they are salaried)...what do you do? You can eliminate positions are they are mandated by Congress.
