i have a 1800 watt rms amp

2 - 12 inch subs

2005 silverado

0 aug wire w/big 3

had this setup in my old truck and couldnt listen to it without blowing the fuses was wondering if it would be necessary to get a HO alt and how many amps would i need? i think my current alt is a 145 amp so would a 220 amp be too much? also would a second battery be necessary or shoudl i just up grade my factory battery to a yellow top. any suggestions would be helpful

I'm just curious as to how not having enough amperage could cause a fuse to blow? Either get a bigger fuse, or take the risk like a man and use no fuse!

The only reason for a fuse to blow is a short to ground or a massive spike in voltage output. Seems to me that a plausible expliantion is that something, somewhere was vibrating and arcing to your ground. You shouldnt be getting wild voltage spikes without some sort of problems with the rest of your electrical system. Perhaps even a short in the amp?

As far as the 220 amp fuse, i recommend something closer to the output of your alt, because of the likelyhood of the above mentioned problem. When you go too high on your fuse you run the risk of burning up something on your system before the fuse blows. Of course all of my eletrical know-how comes off aircraft and not car sterio systems, so i could be off.
