what is Gauge

i have question about the "# gauge" what exactly does it mean?? and when they talking about the number are they talking about the power cable or rca...or ground?? sorrry i got no idea..and i was just trying to find some speaker wire and they also ask for the gauge too....i have a 693.5i and some old skool sony in the front....thanks for the help.

it's basically the thickness of the wire. the lower the number the thicker it is. rca's don't have thickness or guage ratings. power wire, ground wire, and speaker wire are all the same wire. speaker wire just has 2 strands of wire connected together for easier installation.

 
Guage is the measure of size for any certain substance. In this case, speaker/power wire. The smaller the number, the larger the wire.1awg is a hell of a lot larger than 11awg. For speaker wire, 16awg should be fine.
