The flaw in your opinion is that you fuse the wire not to protect the equipment on the other side (well unless it states in the manual that an external fuse is needed) but to protect the wire itself. I run my wire where it cannot become pinched or cut and otherwise depend on the fusing in the equipment itself to protect it.
For years this has been my practice.
For years I've not had an occasion to regret it yet.
