Think ported box, only easier. Say you have a box for 2 subs with shared volume, and you unplug one sub, the other one will, for some reason, pound a lot harder than it used to.

Don't buy a passive radiator like that, unless you plan on doing the math to go with. Instead, get a Legacy / Pyramid / Boss sub the right size, the cheaper the better, and just take out the driver.

 
PR's are used for enclosures when the calculated port length would get impossibly huge, say for very low tunings...not very commonly used for in-car setups, you'd tune too low for practical use.
