hey guys my birthday is coming up this month and i get to select a dandy piece of equipment no more than 200 dollars perferably.. maybe less.. im loking for an EQ with at least two inputs.. since i have no rear fill.. or do i even need the sub-out to go to the EQ? (i was thinking about going with an Alpine ERE-G180 which is currently in the classifieds but i found out it only has one input.) i was originally planning to go with an audiocontrol but i dont know which one i should go with.. the more control i have over frequencies the better, but when i find an EQ with a good bandwidth they have like one channel input which is basically mono? i dont want to buy two EQ units to get full control. which EQ is right for me? id rather keep it in the trunk then in-dash if that helps but if there is a nice indash one i wouldnt mind piccing it up. im gonna do some research on some EQs now but youre input and second opinions would be very appreciated.

Most passive EQs will only have a single input and then three sets of outputs (front, rear, and subwoofer) Most decent ones will additionally have a level control and crossover frequency adjustment for the sub output though that X-over adjustment will normally be three different set cutoffs that you choose between rather than being continuously variable like the X-over in an amplifier or a dedicated outboard X-over.

Hard to go wrong with that Alpine unit..can't see where you'd be unhappy with it. I had a Kenwood KGC-6042 for alot of years that I loved dearly.

Good luck in your search!

the thing is, my alpine 7995 has three sets of outputs. and if i got the alpine EQ i would only be using one of those outputs which would obviously be the front output since im not going to just EQ the sub. i really really dont want to have the sub output come from the EQ and from the front output of the HU becuz then i wouldnt be able to use the sub level control on the HU.

That's true - you wouldn't be able to use the sub level control on your HU....but there will be one on the EQ....so you've not lost the functionality of that sub level.... you'll simply be changing the location of the control for it.

So run the front output into the EQ, and run the sub amp straight off of the sub output from the HU. Ofcourse then the sub wouldn't be controlled by the EQ, but it would get you as close as possible to the "best of both worlds"

If you can find an Alpine 3402 parametric EQ it has 2 sets of inputs, where you can hook up the front out for the front stage and the sub output to the rear input..look on e-bay,,I had the erg-180 from alpine and I didn`t care for the EQ section but the x-over section was ok..good luck

i think im going to go with an AudioControl. i just realized that i might want to use an EQ to shape my components' frequencies to a nice sounding way AND AT THE SAME TIME flatten the hump in frequency response i get when going with a ported box for my 12" idMAX. i can audibly tell the difference when a certain note plays its LOUD and then when it hits a different note, its not as loud. i think if i went with a sealed box i wouldnt have had this teeny tiny dislike about the sub response but oh well i have it now and i think an EQ will be ok to maybe cut away at the peak frequency??
