What do you Guys Think?

Alright so I'm about to start a new build, but unsure of what I wanna do. My last couple builds were a pair of 12s, C2 Threatcon 2s in 4 cubes tuned to 33, and a pair of Crossfire bmf 1228s in 4.25 cubes at 34hz. Both had about the same loudness to my ears. Now I'm trying to decide if I wanna do a pair of Obsidian v3 12s in 4.5 cubes, or 4 of the new SQ hds2 10s in 4.5 cubes. The 12s would be rear firing with the port, and the 10s would have to up fire toward the trunk lid with the port firing toward the rear. Either setup will be on an American Bass vfl 4480 at 1 ohm. What do you guys think?

Might be able to go a touch bigger on the box for the 10s as well, but I know for sure I can fit the 4.5 cubes.

4.5 cubes is after sub/port/bracing displacements as well.

overall loudness?

if so, the 4 10s have quite a bit of cone area advantage.

My vote would be for the V3 12s tho.

Rear firing, port to the driver side. Would get nasty, and sound good doing so

Loud daily is what Im going for. By port to the driver side do you mean firing into the cabin closer to the driver's side or firing sideways on the drivers side? Could do either with either setup. Gonna be using a single 8" aero port.

Forgot to mention the rear seats do fold down and will be folded down 95% of the time.

and SQ's like big boxes so for those 4 10s to be comfortable, you would need ~6cubes after displacement.

2 12s. Simpler, cheaper.

and since your seats fold down and will be down, you might aswell forward fire and seal off from the trunk. Loudest setup for trunk cars imo

I have considered firing forward and sealing off from the trunk, no experience doing this though. Maybe I need to look into it. Only problem is the seats do need to go up on occasion, you think there would be any problems with the woofers hitting the seats if they were up? Prolly vehicle specific question there though.

yeah probably vehicle specific. I know my back seats are angled with my rear deck and when seats are up, I have a good 4" of depth behind the back of my seats. Just have to see lol

Alright well definitely gonna look into it. Gonna have to see if I can fit both subs in the opening without hitting the panels on the sides, and figure out how to seal it off.

Not gonna be able to forward fire and seal it off =/. The opening by the backseats isnt wide enough for the subs/port to fit in it. Unless I push the box back a few inches and seal it off then, but idk if thats the same as sealing it off with it right up against that opening.

you can fold up the seats and still play... forward firing is my new kick though......... lol yeah you always want it back a little to avoid subs hitting seats.... you don't run it flush..... tried the trick I told you and see..... if your a bass head you'll never run it the other way unless you have too...... lol !!!!

Yeah once the new build gets under way ill do what you said and see how it sounds. Well if you can run it back a few inches from the rear seats then ill give that a shot.

yeah. I mean I actually gained more output firing driver side vs rear firing.

All i can say is watch out firing to the side ..it is very vehicle and setup dependant ...i switched to subs forward side fire last box and lost a ton .i mean a ton of output across the board

I tried sealed forward didnt like the sound for daily...fwiw the loudest trunk cars are subs and port forward with the box pulled as far away from the cabin opening as possible
