What Crossover points for comps & sub?

Hi,

What crossover points do you suggest for the following in a Honda Odyssey:

1. Focal 165KR : 60Hz - 20KHz

2. IDQ10 D2 V3: 5 - 110Hz

Am running both of them through the Arc Audio KS300.4 amp that puts out:

RMS @ 4 ohms 4 x 90 watts

RMS @ 2 ohms 4 x 175 watts

RMS @ 4 ohms bridged 2 x 350 watts

I have my gains set at about mid-way.

The installer initially set the Focals at 110 (I don't have the sub yet). The sound was quite clear but not as warm. I changed to about 80, which made it better for warmth, but i am kinda missing the clarity that I had at 110. So just curious what do others here usually set their crossovers at?

there is no set point

mine are set @ 70hz, other people use 100 and 120hz, just a matter of opinion, 110 is just too high for me, just make sure if you do it low that the speakers can handle it

usually 80hz is a good starting point and go up and down from there if you want to change it

my mids are hp at 80/24db slope & my sub is lp at 65/12db slope

everyones install, equipment & tastes will vary

thanks for the responses...i agree none of this is a hard rec...depends on tastes, car setup etc. Wud love to hear from more!

Also, do you setup the HU crossovers (if it has it) same as the amp? Or let the amp be almost full range so you can control just from the HU?

Use one or the other, both together would work but they might affect each other & be unpredictable. The hu is probably the most accurate & it's right at your fingertips.

Remember overlapping & gaps are perfectly acceptable. In an open cabin like an SUV you might want to lp the sub kinda low & have a gap to keep the bass up front, then use a shallower slope to blend. In a trunk car you might want to lp higher to help the top end fight its way into the cabin, having an overlap of frequencies might blend better in this case. Nothing is set in stone, trial & error is probably the best way to go about it.

I have my subs LPed at 63hz with a 24db/oct slope, and the mids HPed at the same frequency and slope.

I cross the sub @ 63, 12db slope. Mids @ 80 with 24db slope and 8.5khz top end cutoff @ 6db slope
