I would make a guess that most newer cars come with a cover due to the fact that somewhere along the line, some moron dead shorted the battery across the positive and negative terminals and sued the car company.Ok, no need to get your panties in a bunch.
Also nearly all newer cars come with a protective cover over the positive terminal.
