Well school started today...

And I don't care what school you go to, High School is not hard. College is not hard (I'm starting my senior year and haven't broken a sweat). All you have to do is pay attention and do the work. Depending on how intelligent you are, you don't even have to do that very much. Hell, I barely try and still average a 3.5 cumulative GPA
I agree. I have a poor work ethic.

Depends on the major as well. I have friends doing easy majors and they don't have to work. I am doing engineering and definitely have to do some work, but no, college isn't too terribly hard.

That is my point. You have to be a top engineer to make 200k. I'm sure General Motors recruits the top engineers, especially to compete with the Asians.
Mechanical engineers are on the lower end of the spectrum IIRC. Depending on what kind of engineering it is, salary could be higher. Certainly not $200k starting though.

And the kid doesn't seem smart enough to be any kind of decent lawyer, so I doubt he'll be taking over grandpappy's law firm.

150k a year isn't out of the question for someone with some experience. When I was looking at going into engineering, I was pretty much guaranteed 50-60k per year right out of school

Both of you are correct. I should be able to get $60K-$65K right out of school, maybe more if I do a double major and a minor. If I get a Masters I should be able to pull in $75K+ a year right out of school. BTW, I am stusying Electrical Engineering with a minor in Electronic Materials and possibly a second major in Computer Engineering.

They bring in engineers from all over to design their facilities overseas. The aren't just about engineering vehicles. I'm not privileged enough to be in their presence however.

I did engineering for a while, and it wasn't very hard. Incredibly tedious, yes. Hard, no.

I quit because I realized that engineering wouldn't really help me toward a career in automotive design. Plus, my love for math goes away the minute it's applied to something for some reason.

How long? If you transferred out of the program before your junior year then yes, you had it easy, junior year and above is when it gets hard.

I know a guy who works for Harley Davidson. He was the head engineer on the V-Rod project. VERY knowledgeable guy and cool to talk to.

I just work with all the hourly union people. I don't even know where the salary people and engineers are at.

Yeah, it was after my Freshman year. Obviously every major intensifies Junior year. It just depends on where your strengths lie.

Just out of curiousity, what classes are your most difficult ones?

Electromagnetics and Linear Systems were tough, I got BCs in both. This fall may **** me, Physical Electronics and VLSI Design are both supposed to be quite tough. And yea, freshman year sucked for engineering, no major focused classes, just basics of engineering, using CAD, risk assessment, engineering reports, basic boring stuff. Sophomore year got better with DSP and Digital Logic, junior was tough but absolutely awesome, I love the stuff I have learned.

Just goes to show you how different two "engineering" degrees can be. I think I maybe took two of those classes. My stuff was more statics and physics in my first year.

Statics sucked because it was a distance ed course taught by a guy who could barely speak english and wrote like a third grader. Physics was just boring because I already knew it all.
