Welding Wire vs. Anything else

To try and shed some light on what is and is not “true” 1/0 or “0” gauge wire, I broke out the digital calipers.

According to the American Wire Gauge (AWG) standard, 1/0 wire is 0.3680” (or just under 3/8”) and I get 0.39 on my caliper for both the Tsunami and Raptor brands, and 0.40 on Hooker Audio brand.

So for those that want to debate it, knock yourselves out. I am happy with what I purchased.

YOu guys will like this.

This is a shot of three-conductor 750MCM next to a 2" IMC coupling. The coupling is 2.5" in diameter so that gives you an idea of how large this stuff is. Picture is misleading though as the cable is actually about 3.1" in diameter. This stuff weighs 18lbs. per foot!!!

And here's a shot of 750kcmil next to the three-conductor.

Think that'll fit under my carpet?

Dont you mean feet?

that is some big *** wire...
Ive always wondered what gauge powerlines are?
Most powerlines you see are smaller than you'd think. High voltage lines normally have little current running through them so there's no need for such massive cable.
