Weird thing happening

hey guys, in my buddie's gtp, we just hooked up his subs. He has 2 JLw0 10's and a rockford amp powering them perfectly. Now our problem is, he has a stock headunit currently, so we went and got a line to rca converter from scoshe at wally world. I figured this would serve it's purpose untill he can get a good head unit. Well, we hooked it all up and it sounds great, untill we close the trunk.

When the radio is off, and he closes the trunk, something like vibrations or something cause the subs to go CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!! at one continuous note.

What could this be?????

Here's my guess, the rear 6x9's are hooked up to the line converter, and the trunk slamming is causing the 6x9's to move alittle and the amp is picking up the movement because it is causing a small current from the magnet to come through and making a sound, whats your thoughts.

Loose ground?

and your theory is ridiculous. Sorry. It is.

Either a loose ground / fault ground or your LPF is set wrong and your subs are trying to do high frequencies.

Definately a loose ground on the amp.

I have had the same problem.

And to agree with IDSkot. It's a rather ridiculous theory. But I do applaud you for trying, that's more than many that post problems like that do.

ok, so check ground and also, does the line converter have to be grounded? it has a wire comming off but i'm not sure what it is. thanks for the help

Can you take a pic if possible of the line converter? Or what model are you using?

Almost positive it is a grounding issue though. Check all the grounds, make sure you have sanded any paint off and that it is secure.

I had this problem before. I had to switch from LOC to the LOC on the JBL amp I have. And it was grounded properly. I think you are right about the speaker movement being transferred to electrical energy from the coil moving, but I could be wrong. Initially that is what I chalked it up to.

I've had this happen before to me using the same equipment. What do you have the remote wire for the amp hooked up to? The issue I had was that the amp was getting power but was not getting a signal from the LOC to process. Find a better remote source that turns off with the radio. Also with my punch amp if I left my bass remote turned up and turned my radio off causing my amp to stay on and not have a signal coming from the LOC it would cause my sub to make a constant rumble.
