weird smell

i have 2 alpine type r 12's, and i just bought a new amp for them, its a Brutus bxi2006d, i wired it up to 1 ohm so they each receive 1000rms, but i think its a little overatted. anyways i played them loud for about 1 min, and i get this smell, its not like a burnt coil smell i cant really explain it. it don't really smell bad, but i can smell it and when i keep playing it, the smell gets worse. so i felt the dust caps and they were barely warm. the box is ported and each sub is in a separate 1.82cu.ft. enclosure. the box is like 4 months old. before the Brutus i has a Memphis 500d giving each sub 250rms each and when i played the lows with this amp i could start to smell the smell but faintly. i kinda think its the box, but i could be wrong, does anyone have any idea.

kinda answered your own question, if you know its coming from your box. That means its your subs or your box. Is it a newly build box? You got the same smell when running 250 watts to the subs?

Not really. But, i'd be careful. I personally would turn the gains down a little more for more assurance that they live longer than 6 months.

I've blown two Type R's and both times I got that same smell in my car... and it always happens on real bass heavy songs. I turned down the sub out on my radio and haven't any problems since (knock on wood).
