weird power hook up..

so my first system i had i didnt know much.. so i took it to a place near me, Discount Audio, and had them install an old system i had laying around. of course it was a waste of money and they did a poor job, but they hooked the power cable to my fuse box instead of my battery. anyone ever seen this done?
