Problem with Alpine IVA W200 new install

I just had my new Alpine installed and the installer said that there wasn't an amp on my speakers in my 03 Acura TL? When I turn the volume up I'm experiencing what sounds like speaker failure only at about 40-50%.

I was wondering if he may have connected the powered head unit to the amp by mistake, causing the amp to see too much power. I'm not sure but the sound is horrible at medium to high volume.

Please advise. thanx

Your installer is a moron.

If your talking about distortion, try turning off all EQ's and the such

If the speakers stop playing, then the installer did something stupid. That unit should be able to drive speakers fine (stock ones atleast) without any issues, if it is installed properly.

Do you mean a stock speaker amp, or an external purchased one?

Stock speaker amp. I was under the impression that there was a BOSE amp that powered my unit. I've checked acura forums and they all seem to think that I have a factory bose system.

Would there be a lot of distortion if you sent the power from the head unit and connected that to a Bose powered speaker? Is there something I should be saying to the installer?

Thanks for your help.

Turn off the Internal Amp if you are using a external amp. "Power IC Off"

If you are installing a center channel you can use the internal amp for it.

As for the hookup, I can't tell you what they did wrong but its not wired right.

"When it does not work right Refer to owners Manual"

he probably wire the speaker outputs from your alpine to the inputs to the stock amp. (most commom thing to do, but wrong) and did not bypass it like he should have. turning off the internal amp is not going to help either

I think he might have used a standard Honda/Acura harness. I've read that the CL and TL have different set-ups. One uses an internal amp in the head unit, mine which has a six disc indash changer, uses an external amp because of space???.

How could he use a universal harness? I've had the IVA D300 before and it sounded pretty good before just didn't like the screen folding out and blocking my Nav. system. So I went with the IVA w200.

Thanks for all your help. I'll look at turning amp off to see if that helps. My work was done at Best Buy and I assumed that since they were new Alpine dealers that they would be more in-tune with different installs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Turning off the Internal amp protects it from being wired wrong. I seen a DA wire a 100x4 amp to it and poof nothing but smoke! The customer freaked:furious:

I dont' think the w200 has the "power IC off" function. well.. i can't seem to find it

From what I can find, Make sure its switched to normal mode.

If you have the manual goto pages 46 and 47 and make sure they setup the output and speakers right.

If you don't have the manual let me know.

I will check these settings and let you know whats going on. Is there a different kit for bose or non-bose? I was thinking that he may have connected a non- bose harness instead?

It could be the wrong Harness, I never use them to avoid floating grounds and stuff in the factory harness.

On the pages that you listed is only the instructions for the add-on Audio Processor. I don't have have this option. I'm going to take it back to Best Buy and seeif he has any answers. I just wanted to do some investigation before heading over there. I like to have some knowledge about what he's saying so it doesn't seem like I'm clueless.

If you come up with anything else to help me medigate the situation it would be appreciated.
