Weird Design?

What kind of design is this? A co-worker of mine says he used to have one of these boxes with two 6.5 drivers. It looks like a bandpass but with 2 ports. Sorry on the crappy speaker drawings. Here it is.

yea my co-worker says that the bass was clean and nice output on it. How exactly does this kind of box work though? It just looks like a ported box attached to a ported box.

really. Would this be louder than a ported box? Or what advantages does it have? Disadvantages?

Advantages?It gets louder over a wider bandwith if done properly.Increases mechanical power handling

Disadvantages?Some people don't like the sound, but most that say that have heard a poorly designed/constructed bandpass box.But the main one is space.These boxes are typically very large.

ic. My co-worker said he just tuned it by hand. Im not really sure how he would do that lol. But I gess it works. But lets say where space is an issue. What would be better, a regular ported box with a 12 or one of these boxes with 2 smaller drivers?

A properly designed bandpass box with 2 decent 10's (or even really nice 8's) and the same power could keep up with a single 12 in a ported box.

But where space is an issue, I'd choose the single 12 ported.These aren't small boxes by any means.
