Was setting the gain and...

I was setting the gain on my Profile CL600 amp the other day. I needed to reach 40 volts @ 4ohms (~400w RMS). Now keep in mind that I have a crappy DUAL head unit with a 2v preout. So anyway, I go to turn up my gain (using 50hz @ 0db) and I only had to turn it up around 1/5th of the way. Now I started thinking to myself that maybe my DMM was incorrect or something because that's pretty darn good for a 2v preout. I had my head unit set at my usual settings... volume 30/46, bass +6/+6, treble +6/+6.

Why is it that I only had to set my gain around 1/5th of the way with the 2v preout?

Is it due to me having the bass at +6?

If I keep the bass and treble at 0, would my subwoofer sound the same loudness wise?

Yes, it will be just as loud if you tweak your gain so it's getting the same output without the boost as with it. Bass boost does just what it sounds like; it makes the bass louder. If you turn the entire signal's strength up, you don't need to boost the bass anymore. If you had your treble AND bass at max...and you make them 0, everything gets quieter. Then you turn up the gain, and it gets louder again. ta-da.
