Wanting to run active but confused...

Um why 1k or 5k on the tweet?
What tweet are you using? Most won't play down to 1k without damage
No, not the xover setting using that as a test tone to set up gain structure.

1khz for tweets and mids or 5khz for tweets and 1khz for mids.

And what about which channels to use for what.

Do the mids go to rear channels and tweets go to front channels (that's how I do it)

I set it by ear.... I do so much adjusting with levels, phase, etc I don't see the point. I also fried my MD22 by hitting the prongs of a DMM against the case...so I don't fool with that anymore.
So if you set them by ear you are still adjusting the gain

i would use sharper slopes on the high pass. and you dont need 8 channels from the head unit. i am running 3 way off 1 set of rca's out of the head unit. sub, mid, tweet
I was just using that for the sake of a quick example... I usually do 18 or 24 myself. And I realize you don't need 8 channels off the HU, but you do need 8 channels coming from SOMEWHERE to run a true 4 way active (3 way comp and sub). Otherwise something is going to end up passive. Now whether it is at the HU, external active xover/processor, or amp, that doesn't matter... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I don't use the gain setting on my componet amps
You said this ^

Where do you have them set then?
Which is why I said this ^

But clearly ^ you lied, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I meant to say the gain setting tutorial...meaning the DMM approach. I am a liar by technicality....lol

yea, i quickly realized once i went active that setting the gains with a DMM is pointless. get some amps with a ton more power than you'll ever need and you'll be set anyway.
