Wanting to run active but confused...

Ya definately I don't argue that. Hell 100% of car audio is really subjective //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

its a pain in the *** to me. you might like it but i dont.
and ok about the 9887 and 880. but you might like the sound better of the 9887 and someone else the 880. again, subjective to listening preferences.

You'll typically need 6 channels of amplification for your 3 way, and then your sub amp is separate. Midbass isn't going to be the same frequency range as your sub, so no, you don't want to use your sub RCAs. It would look something like this:

Sub: LPF@63Hz, 12db/oct

Midbass: HPF@63Hz, 12db/oct, LPF@300Hz, 12db/oct

Midrange: HPF@300Hz, 12db/oct, LPF@2.5kHz, 12db/oct

Tweeter: HPF@3.0kHz, 12db/oct

You will need either a HU that runs 8 channel, like one of the Eclipses, or have a 3 way Active HU then do the rest with a versatile amp. Or, you could just use the passive xovers that came with your components to cross over the midrange/tweeter, and use the 'high' xover on your 3 way Active HU to bandpass the mids/midrange. Then you would only need a 4 channel, and run the midbass off the front two channels, and the midrange/tweeter combo off the rears with the midrange actively x'd over@300Hz from the deck. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So what do you think nismos?

4 channel amp -

tweeters to front or rear channels

Mids to front or rear channels.

I always put the tweets to the front channels and mids to rear.

Setting gain test tones for comp sets 1khz

Setting gain test tones for active

Tweets 1khz or 5khz

Mids 1khz

?

i would use sharper slopes on the high pass. and you dont need 8 channels from the head unit. i am running 3 way off 1 set of rca's out of the head unit. sub, mid, tweet

3 way active is tweet, mid, sub

When many people say 3 way, they mean a 3way active front stage (really 4way active)

Which brings up this question //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Let's say you wanna run active. If you have an amp that will do 150x4, which would be a nice amount of power for the mids, but it seems like it would be total over kill on the tweeters. For example, if you are setting the gains on the amp with the headunit at 75% then even with the gain to the tweeters at zero you are still sending a shit ton of power to them.

I really want to get a 4 channel amp and run active, but I am worried that if I get something that has enough power for my mids that it might be overpowering to the tweeters. Any thoughts?

My tweeters like 100w.
