Wanting to run active but confused...

So you'll power the rears off the midbass output from the HU? That'd be fine, or you can just run them off the headunit, the issue with running them from the amp is the front stage will be pulled back.

i never thought of that ya ill just run rear fill off the headunit power

thanksman

have you (also) had both on the exact same setup? remember SQ is pretty subjective based upon the listener's preferences as well. i know alpine's head units generally have a little more emphasis on the treble frequencies.

you cant go wrong with either though, and most people probably wont know a difference. it's probably just based on the cosmetics and setup of menus and stuff.

personally, i will never own another alpine after my 7894, they are too hard to configure. i am partial to the way pioneer sets up their head units

have you had both on the same exact setup of speakers/amps/xovers/eq's?
if not, how can you say that?
Yes I have, on the identical setup same amps and same speakers.

I don't know why so many people complain about the alpine setup. To me it makes MORE sense than any other interface I've ever used, be it eclipse, pioneer or whatever. Everything is logically setup.

Yeah. I had the pioneer till it ran into the stupid grounding problem they all have!

But my all time fav. was the cda9835 and then new cda9887 is just as good not if better so I'm happy. One of the best HU on the market IMO.

Here are some things that I haven't see discussed and would like to get some opinions on.

4 channel amp -

tweeters to front or rear channels

Mids to front or rear channels.

I always put the tweets to the front channels and mids to rear.

Setting gain test tones for comp sets 1khz

Setting gain test tones for active

Tweets 1khz or 5khz

Mids 1khz

?

its a pain in the *** to me. you might like it but i dont.

and ok about the 9887 and 880. but you might like the sound better of the 9887 and someone else the 880. again, subjective to listening preferences.
