Wanted: AWESOME SQ Component set for <$350 to go PASSIVE.

I wanted a good component set for my front stage. I will not be running active for quite some time.

My present equipment is in my signature, if you need to look at it before suggesting.

I intend to give 120W RMS to each side, and wish to mount the components in the stock location of my car. 5.5 inch, 5*7 or 6.5 inch, all will do. The stock crossover HAS to be a high quality one, as I don't intend to have them running from the crossover of my 7200 for a long time. I want to drop the set in and forget about it.

I listen to a wide variety of Genres of music and would want a set that can produce detail. Oodles of it. And I like laid back speakers that can play well at the highest of volumes. I don't like brightness, or any form of harshness, and I want something that can perform well OFF-axis as well as ON-axis.

Please chime in with your suggestions. Or offers, if any.

Fit as big of a driver as you can

Look into silk dome tweets, they tend to be less bright/harsh

Any speaker will have poor off-axis response, if asked to play above its passband were beaming occurs

I might point you towards a set of pioneer PRS

IT doesnt matter how much you spend or how good of components you have it will never sound good if you just drop them in. Invest some in prepping the doors.

What do you mean "doesn't work wonders in passive mode"?The Pros are a nice set also & would be my second suggestion followed by the Morel Tempo 6

I meant the crossover of the PRS720 is the weaker link. If active, the mids can take a whole lot of power and the tweets come into their own.

Since each car acoutics is different, isnt that the case with most passive xovers, that they limit the mids & tweeters???

yes most mids & tweeters love active- that if the person knows what they are doing.

I also like keep it simple.

I have gone active-passive-back to active-to passive again.

I guess it's just fun to play with my gear.

but those PRS720 can shine with a that passive xover as well.

Those ID cxs comps are the best I have ever heard. I had a pair of Polk MOMO's and I loved them but everyone was saying they were nothing special and I kept thinking Man, I just don't agree those Polk's sound great. Well, I upgraded to the ID cxs and it was leaps and bounds ahead of the Polk's, I could then understand why people were saying that. I don't think those ID's will let you down. Clean mid bass, crisp great highs, the sound is beautiful.
