So, i'm sick of have having shitty sound in my room/dorm, and want to start with 2 bookshelf type units. For the time being, the source will be my computer and ill use the amp from my old klipsch promedia 2.1 system (55w per channel) until I step it up. Thus, the speakers may just be underpowered for a while depending on what drivers I decide on, but im not going to build them around the amp options I have now.
I know I want each enclosure to have two main sections. The bottom will be some bass-reflex variation for a 5-6in driver, maybe something that can go down to 45-55hz? For the top, I like the idea of using a 3-4in full range driver and crossing it over a little higher, but im not sure (no clue on the enclosure for this part). I could go with a more traditional tweeter, but for some reason I would rather not. I guess it could turn into a 3way setup, but I would rather not.
So, throw out some driver and enclosure design ideas!
I have looked at a few of the 5-6in dayton reference drivers, most of which look great; but im having a harder time on the 3-4in driver. A lot of the reviews on the full range drivers hint at less than optimal high frequency performance, which is where I want to use it.
