Walling off my car, part 2 (the pics thus far)

build with the 2x4's first, then layer in the mdf from the inside. makes it easier and much more solid.

as far as the baffle, 2 layers won't cut it. hell, 2 layers will probably crack. i would do a minimum of 4, possibly 6+.

i have had 4 layer walls with no 2x4's, and they flexed.....

oh, btw, i would stray away from the bottom port. it was a horrible in my van.

also, tommy if we threaded rod, instead of JUST doing the rod, would it not help to put like a smal 6x6 piece of wood on the backside of the baffle, but with the rod going through it to minimize the stress point the rod would make? It would be something like a load disstributor type deal....if that makes any sense.

im not reading 18 pages of this, but im guessing someone has a structual issue with a build? 2x4 inside the box secured with lots of this

http://www.stickwithpl.com/Products/detail.asp?PLProductID=14

and its never coming apart (guarenteed)

you can get it at most hardware / construction store (liquid nails sucks fyi) this stuff will stick anything to anything forever.

before you rebuild id use 5 or 8 tubes of it and $30 of 2x4 and some threaded rod, im sure it will be fine.

I wouldn't use any 2x4's internally. A smart guy would build the 2x4 frame then put the MDF on that. An even smarter guy would use 13 layer void-free cross directional Baltic Birch versus MDF. And the smartest guy would use steel tubing and Baltic Birch combined.

That would be nuts.

A smart guy with a small budget would use? :p
I was going to buy the BTL but I'm going to use my money to build a wall that my BTL will appreciate.

Steel tubing would require the use of a welder and all that, correct? I'm not too familiar with what it is... but birch is definitely possible. Benefits of birch = ? I was pretty sure it was lighter, is it stronger? Know of the price difference offhand compared to MDF?

birch cost more, anyway your vehicle is going to be daily mostly,if you do some of the stuff these guys are telling you,you lucky if your car would pull off must less drive worth a crap.

birch is usually stronger and lighter ( 13 ply that is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ) but it costs 2x as much as mdf

for a wall that is just going to be used for daily/bassrace i think birch would be the way to go.... alot lighter = better gas mileage and less of a hassle on your car.
