i've never really done an electrical upgrade so how would i go about getting my volts to amp up to 14.5 or more? would big 3, replace stock alt with ho alt, and new yellow top optima battery do this?

The best you can hope for is the voltage the alternator puts out. You can raise it by fooling it's sense wire, but just decreasing resistance will help the voltage at the amps be much closer to the alternator voltage.
