Voltage Regulators??????

I was reading this months issue of caraudio magazine and all the guys with the questions..... this guy saud that his volvo lights dim the q and qa guy said that it was probably the voltage regulator then i talked to my boy marcus from work hes runing a 15' l7 in a huge box probably 4 cubes in a honda prelude i think or accord didnt ask him with 700 off stock and his light dim but his inside lights are ok......... like mine my lights are dimming 3/4 at idle when im driving there fine is it just my car or is it my alt??????? Im speaking from the experiance before my alt blew

i also have a ? about voltage regulators in my ford when i up grade the alt will i have to up grade the regulator
