voltage question

just a quick double check.

I put this on the gain thread but i figure more would see it here

kicker amp with a birth sheet of 1750 watts RMS x1 at 2 ohm

I have it hooked up to 2x s15L7 wired to give a 2 ohm load.

is my math correct

1750x2= 3500

voltage out put at highest listening volume should be = 59.1

now if this is right that has my sub amp gain just below half way. while playing a 40hz test tone. IF if put the gain up the very slight click to half way the voltage jumps to 63.0 but the volume gets ALOT louder IMO still sounds just as clean. is it a huge risk to leave it at half way or am i best simply leaving it the small click below with no clipping at all. i guess my question is the 4 volt difference considered enough clipping to matter? is clipping damaging at any level or is it acceptable to a certain point? the only reason i ask is becaseu the volume change is rather drastic so of course i want more output but not at the cost of the subs.

any info would be great

thanks

well ur way off, because 1750 rms x1 @ 2 ohms. You Don't multiply the rms by how the ohms. It means the amo makes 1750 rms at that resistance level.

i thought that in order to figure out the proper unclipped gain setting that I had to take the given RMS times the ohm load at the amp and then use the squareroot of that number to figure out the voltage i want. if this is not right let me know.

Pleaase don't post out of your butt. He's correct.
amp-is your DMM set to RMS and is it a "true RMS" meter. If not, the number you measured really doesn't mean anything.
HMM this i'm not sure of. how do i know if its a true RMS DMM? I got it from lows for around 55 bucks. the thing has two DC settings(along with several others). one DC setting side list only two choices 20 or 200 the other side has like 5 voltage choices. i can take a picture of it when i get home. thanks

it'll say on it 'true rms' somewhere, it IS a selling point.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

hmmm well it says nothing about the RSM in the book or on the machine. I guess its not a true RMS DMM. how much of a difference is there normaly between the two types? if it a must have then i guess i could just go buy a new meter

also what about my question in requards to the clipping levels?

thanks

Amps convert DC current to AC for your speakers;)
That is why you measure it in AC.

Well i guess that makes me a dumb azz dont it lol.

ok so i just check it via AC this time and i am very happy. i was able to turn them up ALOT more then i ever had them. thanks all. nothing beter then turning down the gains because its to much for a daily driver .
