voltage meter question

So I bought a voltage meter . And a multimeter .

I calibrated the meter as well. But I hooked it up via wire harness from radio.

Question is. Does it really need to be powered and grounded at the amp? I would think that the voltage at the amp is pretty much the same everywhere else? And would it vary by much if it was hooked up at amp or via wire harness?

Yes i like to wire them directly to the amp that way i know what the voltage is at the amp not some wire

Ok. But does the voltage vary by much either at amp or some wire. I'm not a electrician but I would think that the voltage at the amp is the same everywhere else. Obviously the voltage drops and is noticeable everywhere else. Lights dimming dash dimming etc. So the low voltage if any isn't really only at one location. It's throughout the whole electrical system.

Sometimes when I turn my vacume cleaner on the lights dim in my house. So I know it's not just at the location of power.

no not much but its best at the amp so you know what the amp is seeing.

Ok. Well I'm getting voltage drops to about 11.9 sometimes. Could possibly be lower at the amp. But that is at full tilt.

Yea 11.9 isnt good...and if u dont wire at the amp and u have a issue or break in the circuit back there u could still have a closed loop where u tapped the wire into
