i have a bxi2006d running at 1 ohm, and i have an altima yellow top, and when i turn it up the volts drops to around 12volts. the stock alt. in the jeep is a 136a. wouldn't that be plenty to at least keep it up above 13 or so volts. im planning on doing the big three, as right now i don't have a lot of time to work on it so it probably wont be till Christmas break. will this keep me up there or will i have to get a bigger alt. im aiming to stay at 14.4 volts, but i don't know what it will take to stay there. any other suggestions??

12v is fine. if you want to stay at 14.4v at all times, you are going to need a hell of a lot more than an optima battery...

and no, the stock alt is not going to be enough to support the extra electrical load. the stock alt is big enough to support all of the factory installed equipment, and that hifonics amp you have is going to want more power, which it will take from the battery.

when you turn it up does it drop to 12 volts and stay there? or is it just when the sub is hitting.
only when it hits and it dims the hell out of the lights too.

i can get a 161a alt. for 98 bucks or i could get a 200a for $190.

I have a Jeep Liberty as well. I've done some test runs on my system with a friends sub while I am waiting on mine. At full tilt, I'm setup for a total of 1950 RMS from my amps (although with music, and real-world usage draw it's probably closer to 1400) and my voltage is staying around 12.5 - 13.2 with no dimming, even with test tones.

Here's a link to the thread showing how I did the Big-3 in my Liberty.

thanks man that helps,

i get alts from my dads work, and they have a 161a for a jeep Cherokee that will fit my lib for that price and i think im gonna buy that.

Voltage drop can't be avoided only lessened.Buying a new alt won't keep you at 14.4v constant.More batteries will spread out the load and give you a more stable voltage reading but it is going to happen either way.

ya i thought so, but the lights dim so freaking bad people think im flashing them at night so i don't play my system at full tilt, so i just at least wanted to stop the dimming.
