You were clipping the amp.
Its known on these 4480's to make a weird noise on clip.

Your volume can be different to the other guys due to headunit voltage

If this is true this is a hell of a deal for someone thatll set the gains properly

I was actually talking to someone about the hu voltage making a difference today on these amps. I'm going to try testing on lower pre out and see if it makes any difference

Higher, not lower pre-out voltage would be better. That way you can keep the amp gain lower

Yeah but isn't it if you have a higher pre out than an amp will go to it will make it clip? I have 5v pre out
Should go up past that even. Also, are you playing the stereo at full volume? If you're headunit is set to it's maximum volume setting and isn't sending out a clean signal, you're amp will clip regardless of where the gain is set.

Bad signal in, bad signal out

Yeah, I should have looked at your sig. 80 PRS is clean. Not sure what input voltage sensitivity is at 1/3 on that amp, but that should be low enough to accept a reasonably high pre-out voltage.

Anyways, good luck. I'll stop clogging up your thread now

The prs80 clips just a little after 3/4..

Higher pre-outs is better so you can keep the gain low on the amp and still get full rated.

As for the main cause of the amp noise, if you notice it will happen on low low notes.

Low notes use more power compared to higher notes are quick and lighter on power.

You must have some setting wrong if you are clipping past 3/4 (volume 46 out of 62) on the 80 prs.

Rather than just making statements, Here's a legitimate test done with proper testing equipment.

clipping will be at a much higher level of distortion

I cant remember who had showed it clipped near max setting but gave a estimate towards actual clipping..

Just making it clear that it is not true that the prs80 does not distort/clip at all at max volume.
