did they get any louder befor you noticed some distortion?

I mean a bit.. I still think theres another problem tho. Im gona hook up a friends amp in my car and try it. I got the kicker amp from craigslist so if anything is malfunctioning its going to be that.

I've used plenty of Infinity/JBL speakers and generally they're great up to 45-50W and then start sounding pretty rough and fail quickly after that... that's lower end line. Still the ones I've listened to got plenty loud off 40-50 real watts.

What is HPF set at, maybe you're trying to play down too low with them...
