well i built a vented box today, i think to 4.5cf...

when figured out volume of a vented enclosure do you get your volume that you want, then add your vent to that? or do you get your volume then just add your vent to the inside of that?

cause what i did was i got my 4.5cf +added a 3" vent to that

The internal volume you calculate should be a total of everything - so if you have a single box, and your sub requires 4.5 cubic feet, and your sub displaces 0.1562 cubic feet, and the port's total internal volume is 0.066 cubic feet, the dimensions you should build the box to should be based on an internal volume of 4.72 cubic feet. Also, if you're going to be using a slot port or bracing, you're going to need to take the volume of the wood used for that into account as well. If you don't take everything into account properly, this could throw off your tuning frequency.
