I pulled this off of a prototype which might explain why it has TC7 steel on 1" TC9 slugs. Regardless, it's nice and strong, and would be perfect for anyone looking to build a low inductance/low distortion driver. The Qes figure for the driver was .423, the BL figure was 18.7 (Re of 3.12), and with the full compliment of copper (ring and sleeve) the Le was sitting at .62mH rather than the usual 3 to 7 mH seen in TC9 motors without this kind of treatment. The coil helping to generate those figures was a 3" four layer aluminum round wire with a WW of 2.25". You can use a slightly longer coil if you want, there's plenty of room for a 3" stroke with this motor. Power handling should be right on par with any other TC9, with consideration given for your choice of coil. Inside diameter is 2 7/8" and outside diameter is 3 3/8".

Looking for $100 shipped CONUS.

On tc, usually pretty thick Jake. 2-3mm for the od ring and 1-2mm for the pole sleeve.

IMO from watching inductance issues, the od sleeve is not nearly as effective as the pole sleeve. When coupled, its pretty effective at lower mH down to .8 or lower.

PS: Can you tell me how thing the wall of the sleeve is ? Been meaning to do some testing with sleeves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
You bet, I'll take a measurement tonight and get back to you.

Yeah, the sleeve is mostly there to negate the coil's inherent inductance and the ring is to help stabilize the flux as the coil makes it's rearward stroke.

Yep, resko was right on the money. It's roughly 1.5mm thick and runs the full length of the T-yoke. That would make it so the coil was intimate with copper on both sides the entire time it was inside the motor. Stick an LMS coil in there and you would have insanely low distortion figures. The downside is that you'd also have the lower sensitivity and lower electrical damping and all that that entails. But you already know that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hey nice looking motor!! for a dummys definition what does this do to/for the tc9 motor?? help with distortion..help thermally..im not a big motor person or speaker builder but i just like information and since i have a tc9/hdc3 sub im curious...ive heard the tc9 has a rather big gap which cause it to thermally heat up faster?? thats about as much knowledge i have about the tc9...although im giving my 18'' a full audioque 3500d and it loves it!!

The main purpose and biggest benefits are lowered inductance and reduced THD. I suppose there could be a marginal thermal gain but probably not that much.

Still available and I've decided I will sell the pair if necessary.
