Upgraded Electrical system?

I plan on running 2 RF amps, a P1000-1BD @ 1.5 ohm and a P400-4. The P1000 is rated @ 140a and the P400 is rated @ 80a.

I have a stock 70a alt (99 Civic) and a new "normal" car battery.

Question 1.

Is 4-gauge enough? Or do I need 1/0?

Question 2.

Do I need a HO Alt? If so, is 120a enough?

Thx,

Rich

i dont think you need a HO alt.....but if your gonna run 0 gauge, whichi think you should, a new battery, some big 3 and another battery in the back perhaps.

Im gonna have to disagree I would get a HO alt. stock 70 is just enough to cover the cars accesories and maybe a small amp but for those two 1000s I would say the upgrade is needed.

only 1-1000. The other is 400-500w. Would the 120a HO alt be enough?

120 would be enough but ull still need some more electrical... so perhaps another battery and the big 3

u might wanna consider a 140 to be more future-proof for future upgrades

1/0 then go from there. Just because the total MAX current draw is xxx doesnt mean itll be drawing that much. Music is dynamic and you will rarely see that much draw, unless youre just playing test tones all the time.

Thx for the info. 02 Civic should be similar to 99. I don't really plan to crank it that often. Really bought the amp for dynamic headroom that anything else.

I am already running 4-gauge. I guess I'll do a 4-gauge big three and use that as a starting point. From there I'll gauge how things go and if there is a lag, I'll move up to 1/0. If there is still a lag, I'll look at a HO alt.

Again, I appreciate all the info...

Rich
