alpine amp not putting out much power

Ok i have a Alpine 7897 hu, alpine mrd-1005 amp, and one alpine type x 12. The speaker is wired for a 2 ohm load at the amp. o guage blocked to 4 guage at the amp. I hooked it up tonight and it is just not giving out much power. I have the input voltage to 2.5.

My question is how much voltage is the sub output giving from the hu. The hu sub gain is at 15 which is all the way up. The owner manual says 4v pre outs but it just dont seem like that much. Anyone have experience with this? i would appreciate the help.

What volume on your HU are you using?

My hu volume is 25. This amp is set by a diplay and not a dial. Either way the amp should not have to be set at 1.0v to get output. My component amp (ppi pc2100) is set properly and sounds fantastic. I dont use the mx option either.

Does this hu just not put out rated voltage. Will this hurt the amp?

u can check the output voltage on both the hu and the amp with a dmm if u have one....if i remeber correctly the formula for the amp is (square root(Wxohms))=xx.xxV...im not definite on that, not an expert just an enthusiast so wait till someone else backs this up..

Does anyone know if the alpine bass eq on the amp is just the same as bass boost on other amps. I know it seems like a stupid question but i was wondering if alpine did something diff with the circuits in the amp so bass eq wont send a clipped signal when set high

u sure its wired for 2 ohm and not 8

I am positive that it is wired for 2ohm +to+ +out -to- -out . If i set the amp at 4volts it does not put out the power. I do not use mx so i am thinking that when mx is turned on it will put out the 4full volts. With it off it does not put out the 4 full volts.
