Unsatisfying output from a 12" FI Q.

The parametric EQ is where I think my problem might be.

It's three bands: Low, Mid, and High.

Each band has an adjustment from -6 to +6.

Each band also has a Frequency to choose from: [Low is 40, 60, 80, 120 I believe, or something close to that].

For each frequency, there is a Q Factor: 2 wide, 1 wide, 2 narrow, 1 narrow.

ATM, I have the Low set at

+2, 40 hz, and 2 wide.

Could this be where my problem is at? I'll try taking a picture with my camera phone if anyone needs to see it in clearer detail.
Thats not going to affect your sub-out, its only going to affect your other speakers.

Actually it does affect the sub. When setting the Low on the EQ at -6, the sub is almost off completely...

This is really starting to piss me off on the lows.. The SSF is doing nothing. I have it on the lowest setting, and no matter whether or not it is on or off, it does not change the output / excursion on any frequency. I tried going all the way from the lowest setting, to the highest, only to find out that it basically makes the sub stop moving if it is any higher than the lowest setting.

Im about 95% sure you have your subs's amp RCA input connected to the Front or Rear output on your HU. Connect your subs's amp RCA input to the Subwoofer output on you HU.

I'll go check it, but I'm pretty sure it's in the right one. I think the AVIC-N3 is just weird like that. The Bass control only affects the Front / Rear speakers. The Subwoofer Control affects the Sub, and the Low affects Both..

The Sub control still controls the sub, so I think I did something right there.. but I'll report back to let you know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Negative.

I've tried every setting on the EQ, but to no avail. Turning the SSF off/on shows no noticeable difference, as well as changing the level that the SSF is at.

Played with the gain free air, but that didn't help with the lows, and the sub was about to bottom out on the higher notes.

Went from 0 to 180 degrees on the phase on the subwoofer, and tried reversing the phase on the head unit too, but nothing came from it.

Switched the L / R RCAs, but that did nothing. I changed the RCAs from JL Audio cable ones that I had to the KnuKonceptz Klarity line. No noticeable difference.

I must be doing some simple thing wrong. But I have no idea what it is...

My buddy has a Q15 with an RE 12.1 installed now, it a 2002 Buick Century, it's a trunk car with a sealed off trunk (metal/insulation behind the rear seats)... and it still sounds great.

I was waiting to see if I got mentioned //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

That amp should make that cone move like a ***** ape is dancing on it. I went from a "better" kicker back to my 12.1 because it got louder and lower....

I would check your crossover settings, on your amp too... It just sounds a little flakey to me... Make sure your not doing something like setting the high pass at 80 Hz thinking you are setting the low pass at 80 Hz.

Could you elaborate on that a little more?

There's a HPF set at 80 hz on my head unit. That's for the speakers correct?

I believe there is a LPF on the amp, and one on the Subwoofer Control on the head unit. Head unit is at 80, amp is probably around 80-90..

Should I recheck those?

Well.... I have to look at my amp but there is a high pass filter on it too I think maybe.... It's to block sub-sonic from bottoming out the sub. But make sure that isn't set really high, because that would be a nicely sloped crossover which would cause the Lower=quieter problem....
