Livin' Loud!
Hey all, I have a problem that I need some serious advice on. I have aquired a pair (2) MTX SledgeHammer 12" single-woofer enclosures.I picked them up from work this way. They enclosures are brand-new, never been hooked-up. I guess the woofers got damaged in shipping and they have been sitting in repair for awhile.
They both came with the 5500 series T5512-44 subwoofers in them. One has a smashed cone and the other has a bad voice coil.
I'm trying to decide what I should do at this point.
1-Should I replace the woofers with new ones and try to sell them for what I can?
2- Should I use 1 of the enclosures, add a T7512-44 7500 series woofer, use it and replace the other with a new woofer and sell it?
3- Should I just scratch using the boxes, sell them as they are and build a custom enclosure with a different brand woofer?
MTX told me the 7500 series would work in the same enclosure as the 5500 series. That why I am considering this. My amp is a KenWood 8152D Mono Block, which puts out 300 rms @ 4ohms and 550 rms @ 2ohms. The MTX 7512-44 handles 400 rms with a peak of 800. Now, MTX said I can feed between 400and 600 rms to the sub and it can take it fine as long as the gain is kept to a moderate level. Is this sub seriously underrated or are they feeding me a load of crap?
Can someone please help me out here? I don't have tons of money to just be throwing around on new subs I'm not going to use. I would rather purchase a good woofer and be happy rather than purchase something I'm not going to be happy with.
Thanks for any input any of you might have!
