Type R sealed or ported

Just startes a entry level system with a single type r 12" and alpine amp, with 4 component speakers and alpine 4-channel amp. I got the http://www.mainstreet-audio.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=QLH-12512SS&Category_Code=VENTED12 with the speaker, should i make the box ported or sealed. or just sell it and build my own box with some of the money?

Sell that POS box. I have the exact one and it....blows, and made out of 5/8" mdf and more port noise then sound on anyhting lower then 38hz.

Make your own, and make it ported. much, much, much better then that thing, trust me.

that enclosure is prolly tuned in the high 40's

If your looking for a loud type R 12 box, 2.75 cubes tuned to 37 with 42 square inches of port really worked for me.

They shine in ported boxes, but I had 2 of them in a sealed application and they sounded pretty good sealed. It is more a prefrence than anything, but most say the shine ported.

all i know is i had a single 10in jlw3 pumping 250rms into it

and it was very loud inside the car not as much outside

now i have 600rms pumping ported 12in and the bass inside thecar is almost the same but

sound louder outside the car but inside is the same

you've probably never heard a type r in a properly tuned enclosure or in a good application.

Well The type R i bought was brand new with the box played with it on the ported option and 2 days later the sub blew out!... Someone told me the box was too small and that caused it but i have warranty on the sub so i can get it replaced no problem. Anyone know where i can get some plans for a nicely tuned ported box online?
