In all fairness, I don't think the thread itself was started for the sake of drama. More or less, just a comparison to see how any given enclosure design made with an average or decent build quality would compare to a TCAB.
More or less a "Will the box I make myself for $40 be as loud as the one sold for several hundred?" kind of thread.
And the answer to that? No. Of course not. If you have to ask, I'm willing to bet your skills in box crafting are not good enough to push the big numbers like a TCAB. Does this mean your boxes are bad? No. Is a box that does 135 bad? No. How about 130? No. 120? Obviously noone who's been near even a cheap Radio Shack meter gets how loud 120dB of music is when you're driving down a road. It's loud. Rear view mirrors become useless, your dash can shake itself loose, driving itself becomes a royal b*tch at 50hz/120dB.
Different users, different needs, different applications. Do you like how a TCAB sounds? Buy one! Thanks to my complaining, Spkrman offers them in Oak or Maple of you pay extra. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif If you're not that rich, team Pwnage makes hellishly loud boxes, too! If you're cheaper than that, have team Pwnage or Jmac or any other expert box designer here simply design one and build it yourself. If you can't afford that, there are free box designers floating around here. But don't think just because TCAB is the flavor of the month that it will explicitly outperform anything like it. That's what leads into these debates with flaming and stuff.
This is all pretty logical. All argument aside, I think if the thread starter had worded it differently it would have saved us a little hassle.
