2 12L7's

Well, I've ordered a pair of the 2004 dual 4 ohm 12" L7's. I'll be powering them with 500 watts rms each off of my Crossfire BMF1000D. Now for the past week I've been doing a lot of reading about these and I've read that a lot of people blow them in the wrong enclosure? Is that because they put them in a box too small? Or because lack of SSF or something? I'm also confused on what I should get my box built to, I can't get it built locally because the only decent builder here will rip me off ($400 CAD for a dual sealed box...), so I'm just waiting for someone online to offer to build me one. Right now I'm planning for a 5.0 cu feet net ported box so 2.5 cu feet each and tune it somewhere between 33-36 hz which is what Tracy (PoleCat) suggested. Anyone have any opinions on this? I know that the bigger the box is, the less power you need to make it loud and since I only have 500 watts each, should 2.5 cu feet each be sufficient?

Oh one more thing, does anyone know if there is anyway to fit that size of a box into my trunk (haven't had time to get dimensions yet, stupid finals!), or will I have to remove the backseat to get the box to fit in there? Sorry for all of the questions haha, my system is very slowly coming together so I'm excited, thanks!

2.5cubic ft is fine, tune it to 33hz. Blowing L7s is due to improper use. Either the gains were not set (my case), the SSF wasn't on when the subs were inside a ported box, or something else. Subs don't blow themselves up, we make them blow.

Alright, thats what I was thinking. It just seems like you see refurbed L7's more than anything else on Ebay so I was thinking something was wrong with that year's line or something. Thanks for the reply.

i have 2 l7's in a 6ft^3 box tuned to 33 hz. it is amazing. i only have 500 watts going to each of mine. i too was a little weary about building my own box, but i just sat down one day, figured out all of the calculations, then the next day my friend and i assembled a very good box in about 2 hours. don't let that intimidate you. its easy. if i can do it, then you sure as hell can too! if you PM me i can help you work out sizes and stuff like that. and i can try to answer any questions you have. Good luck man.

Well, I'm sure I could do it if I really tried but I seriously have no access to any tools, my cousin has a garage but no power tools. The guy who does all of my install stuff usually would let me use his garage and tools probably but he'd charge me an arm and a leg just for using his shop...I thought it'd be easier to get a box built on here for me but that doesn't seem to be working out either. What kind of tools did you use to build your box? Your set up looks very similar to what I'm going to be using too haha.

Also, my amp does have a SSF so I should be good there. Thanks for the replies guys.

I have 2 04 L7 12's in a 4cf box tuned to 35Hz with about 1000 to the both of them the front wipers on my 2000 mustang jump of the car when i play lite night tip i wish i can get a bigger box in my car but the sub and port displacement takes up most of the box

hahaha I like what I'm reading here, now its just a matter of fitting that **** box in my trunk once someone decides to build it for me. How much power are you running to your L7s blaze383?

make sure your amp has subsonic filtering. kicker l5's and l7's require that b/c if the amp doesnt have that feature they try to put out low beats that they simply cannot push.
say what???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Wrong. L7s can get low. They don't need to have the SSF on. It all depends on how you make your box and how it is tuned. If its in a sealed box you do not need the SSF on and yes they will get low. If in a ported box then yes you should have the SSF filter on, at all times.

bah why can't they just arrive, its only been one week since they were shipped out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. What is your box tuned to blaze?

Well i'll give u some pics anyways lol:p:
