Type-R 15 Port....

Well, I was searching for port suggestions for a single Type-R 15 in 2.5ft^3. The only thing I could find was at Crutchfield, they recommend a 1.5-3.0 ft^3 ported box w/a 3" port 8.5" long.....

My question though, I don't know what box size that the port recommendation works with??? I want to tune it in the low 30Hz range.

First of all, any suggestions....

Second of all, how do I figure this out by myself.....

I tried a couple different port length calculators and got different port length recommendations.... that were as much as 10" different.... and also found one site that recommended at least a 9.5" diameter port??????? Don't get that one!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much power do you have? Youll want at leat 4ft after sub and port displacement. Then about 50 inches port area tuned to 35 ( 22in port length) no lower than 32. 32 will be low note wonder wont play all songs very loud just the low ones. Tune to 35-6 and all songs are loud.

It is very important you make the box at least 4ft with big enough port, No flexing, no sides larger than 12x12 unbraced. Or it will sound like poo and be 15dbs down from what you can have if you do it right.

I only have 3ft before port..... Why does alpine recommend 1.5-3.0

I was excited about a single 15 setup, but I'm not gonna do bigger than 3.0

4ft a must?? not at all

I just built a killer box for a single 15in rtype

its 2.49cf and tuned to 30hz it is one of the best SQ subs ive had in along time deff very strong and good sounding in 2.5cf

now the 2.5cf is after port and speaker displacement so about 3.15cf overall but deff not 4cf and it deff sounds awsome

i used a 10x2.5in req port 26in long with 90deg mdf corners

sub up and port back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanx mmouse57.... makes me a little more comfortable with my setup now...

Well, I have a max of 3.14ft^3 if I used the whole width of my trunk, which I really didn't want to do... My truck has a width of 33", and my calculations were for a box 28" wide. I was hoping to leave a gap in one side so I could fold down the small section of the back seat (passengers side) and let the bass in when the kids aren't in the car. The other thing is I don't have the depth to put the 15" sub pointing up, so it'll have to face back. I was wondering where I should put the port.....

Would it be horrible if the box ended up 2.25ft^3 or so tuned to 30 or so Hz??? They recommend from 1.5-3.0, so I sure hope so cuz this port is gonna take up some crazy space... I had calculated the port dimensions according to the recommended 3" port 8.5" long, which doesn't take up much space at all.....

Would the 3" port be that bad being in a sealed off trunk?

3" port is too small. 2 4" or 1 6" IMO.

I've tried the port calculators and keep coming up with CRAZY long port suggestions..... Could someone come up with a dual 4" port length for me please for a 2.5ft^3 box tuned to about 30hz.... Thanx in advance

Using the port calculator I come up with 27.18" EACH for port length!!!!! Really????

29.5" of 6" port!!! That's gonna be like a snake wrapped around inside the box.... Just never seen a port that long in a 2.5ft^3 box..... sorry, a noob on ported boxes!!!
