TV: Plasma vs LCD?

i have the samsung PN42A450 or something like that its a 42 inch samsung plasma and when i did not have hd and was watching a basketball game or just any channel it looked pretty bad.
I believe it is because it comes in 480 and so the tv has to put it in 720 therefore distorting it? can someone clarify on this.

The TV has to deinterlace and upscale it to its native resolution, so you're bound to get some degree of distortion. How much distortion will depend on the quality of the filters used and, unfortunately, the quality of those filters is usually not very good these days as it can't be expressed in a numerical value because the general public (aka ignorant masses) bases their buying decisions on numbers and price.

LCD's show truer colors..

The main difference I notice is that Plasma's have a glass screen.

I just bought a 50" Samsung Plasma. I absolutely, flat out love it vs. my 32" LCD in my bedroom. Although my 32" is only a Magnavox. I would say Plasma is better in my opinion. My buddy has a 46" LCD Toshiba (i think) and I think my 50" has better colors and depth if that makes any sense.

I've got a 52" Samsung LN750 and it's the greatest screen (besides the Kuros) I've ever seen.

If you have the means then I would definately suggest picking one up.

wait for the 240hz sony LCD's that will be coming out in a few months,
if you can't wait get a Samsung 120hz LCD, best display i've ever seen.

Just switched from a 42" Panasonic 720p plasma to a 46" Samsung LCD 1080p yesterday... the Samsung blows it out of the water with blue-rays and video games. But sports are much better on the plasma.

Seems like an excellent deal if 720p is all you need. Free wall mount and nice DVD player to boot for ~$1,200.

Plasma for me, I have a 58" Panasonic, love it.

I have not had a chance to see the 120hz LCD's

in action, did not like the older LCD technology.

It means you average 120 frames per second rather than 60

like the older ones. In fast action like sports, older LCD's sucked

nads.

Plasma has a more seamless picture on average from LCD but of course big cons in energy use, heat and some have issues about the life expectancy. The latter issue to me is a non issue. Newer plasmas are less prone to burn in and are rated for longer life. IMO even the old ones weren't bad on life, because I would more than likely be upgrading before it dies anyway.
