I'm in the same boat. Looking for a good deal for a 40" or larger LCD tv. I'm not too sure where to begin. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
brand name 1080p's are cheap at sam's club or walmart. i got my 42" philips 1080p for 899$ at target.

richer color, displays dark scenes really well is plasma

also with plasma though they **** up alot of electricity, need to be careful with glare

i prefer plasma because of the richer colors, it just looks so great, especially in hd.

p.s. if someone says something about burn in they need to be shot because that is not a factor with the new plasmas out right now

Plasmas have better contrast, are usually less expensive, consume more energy, and are prone to burn-in (where images become permanently burned onto the screen).

LCD's are brighter, more expensive, more efficient, and do not suffer burn-in.

There are a lot of satisfied plasma owners out there, but I won't take the risk of burn-in: it's LCD for me.

I have 2 Plasmas, a Panasonic and a Samsung. They show great compared to LCD's. Since the 120hz LCD's with film/auto motion came out, I want a LCD now. If you get a LCD, make sure it running at 120hz IMO.

I'm a normal tv watcher. Don't need anything fancy. It will be in my bedroom and will be used for watching tv and the occasional movie/video game.

If it makes any difference I usually have the lights off in my room when I'm watching tv.

BURN IN IS NO LONGER EXISTENT IN PLASMAS!!

its amazing how certain things just stay stuck in peoples minds no matter what...its like a **** stereotype that is not true anymore

Sure it is ... It just is much more difficult to actually burn something in than it used to be, but it's still possible to do it.

I am looking for a good, semi-large multi-input TV with 1080p that I will use mainly for hooking up to the PC via HDMI out (at 1080p //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif), and Blu-ray movies. The poll so far seems to say LCD. So far what I have seen, I am more impressed with LCD's then plasma.

X2

i have a LG 50 inch in my room. use it for movies (Blueray) and video games (PS3) and i havent experience a burn in image yet

Getting ready to pick up either a 42" or 50" Panasonic plasma (EPP FTW). Just need to decide which size I want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Neither are better or worse. As with everything, you just need to decide which set of trade-offs best fit your criteria.

And as was mentioned, permanent burn-in really isn't an issue anymore unless you are leaving your TV on ESPN for weeks straight without turning it off.
